An Honest Review of “Masquerades” by Tenille Townes
Tenille Townes took the country music world by storm when she released her hit song, Somebody’s Daughter which tells the story of a homeless girl that Tenille spots and hands five dollars to realizing that this girl is somebody’s best friend, crush and daughter.
Fans have been impatiently waiting for the second studio album, “Masquerades” which is a seven track record featuring the song Villain In Me. You can stream the full album HERE.

1. When You Need It - The album starts off with a piano ballad where Tenille is accompanied on the song with artist, Wrabel. The song is about the struggles of life and how sometimes all we need is just a friend who will stick with us during the rough terrain. Townes and Wrabels voices’ blend perfectly. This song is exactly the song we needed after coming through the two toughest years of our lives. I love every single thing about this song but wondered why It was track one? I’m a huge fan of track one being upbeat. But, this song is incredible!
2. When’s It Gonna Happen - The second song off the track tells the story of a broken heart and still having to watch those around you falling in love and getting married. Townes is already a superb storyteller but this song really makes you feel all the emotions. This song is amazing!
3. The Sound of Being Alone - Though it has a uptempo beat, the lyrics are pretty sad. This sort of reminds me of a Gwen Stefani sing but I love the rawness of this song. I really like the high notes Townes gives on the verses.
4. Villain In Me - This one came out early and the minute I heard it I acknowledged the hurt and realness in both Tenille’s voice and the lyrics. I love how this song is almost purely acoustic but that’s all the song needs for it to breathe it’s life.
5. Shared Walls (feat. BRELAND) - I love how this one sheds light on how people go through the same thing and at the same time it also translates into a love song. The lyrics, the melody and BRELAND being featured….there is nothing more I could want from this record.
6. Same Road Home - This story shares the reality that we maybe be going to a thousand different places but we’re all on the same road. I love the feeling Tenille gives through this song, it’s almost as i though she offers comfort of saying, ‘don’t rush, we’re all on the same road’
7. Light in Your Eyes - the last song on the album is a love song with hints of nature in the lyrics. I love how Tenille chose this song as the last track on the album, done purposely or not. The imagery of the lyric, ‘I see a highway running straight into the western sky’ and ‘let the stars fall out of sight cause baby you got the light in your eyes’ is a great send off to listeners of the album with hope for better days and beautiful things.
Overall, I rate this album 10/10. Tenille really provoked emotions and rawness throughout this entire album. Masquerades was the perfect title for the album, since I was at first skeptical. Tenille shows both new listeners and fans the importance of loving yourself, feeling emotions, but keeping that steadfast strength in your heart.
